Early 20thc. painting of Chinese flying kites
Our ref 571 An early 20th century watercolour, heightened with white, depicting Chinese flying kites. The picture is signed, lower left, by William Henry Charles Groome (1854-1913) who was a noted 19th century painter and illustrator.
Provenance: the archives of Edinburgh publishers W & R Chambers. The area around the picture is marked up in pencil for the block-maker and this, the well executed original artwork, would have been made either for magazine reproduction in Chambers’ Journal or inclusion in one of the company’s reference works. In our opinion, this would have been from the period 1900-1910.
Size 18.5 x 23.7cm.
